Who is behind DCT

Hello, my name is Viv Oyolu and I am the founder of DCT.

After two degrees (BSc Marketing and an MBA) and over 10 years experience in sales and marketing within various sectors, I decided to take a sabbatical in 2005. I upped and went to New York, USA to volunteer with an organisation that works with and supports inner-city children and young people. I thought it would a good idea to do something completely different and meaningful – my friends and family thought I was having a mid-life crisis!

Anyway, prior to the trip, I had no experience volunteering, and also had limited experience of working with children (apart from friend’s!), but was determined to learn, and embraced everything I had to do during my time there. My biggest challenge was seeing the scale of poverty that existed, and became instantly grateful for the cards I had been dealt in life. My parents have given me a good education; nurtured me to have the confidence to take opportunties to reach my potential. Not everyone is this fortunate.

So after almost five months away, I returned to the UK with a completely different focus, purpose and passion to give back to society – the next generation in particular – those less fortunate than me.

My journey has led me to creating programmes and a resource. I love what I do, and have to say meeting and working with young people is a great opportunity to learn everyday and also give back – I don’t take it for granted. If by what I do I can open up a child’s mind to think beyond what they know at that time, then I am truly a lucky girl!
